“In the spring of 2017, I held an exhibition entitled ‘A personal perception of taste.’ It was an expression of my vision of beauty in its purest form – naked, brutally honest, and stripped down. The work is a visualization of my personal view of the world – my personal taste and preferences. From A to Z, all the elements constitute an interpretation and translation of my raw perception of beauty. And now, in this 2020 sequel to ‘A personal perception of taste,’ I pay homage to the beauty of the Japanese script.
This series of 50 works is an abstract and dynamic dance of bright colors against a classic background. I have printed the works on pages taken from an antique Japanese book, which I bought in 神保町 Jimbocho, Tokyo’s bookshop district, celebrating the combined splendor and purity of Japanese characters.” – Anne Stijnen
