Growing up gets me down

Functioning as a fully working timepiece, British sculptor Alex Chinneck transforms and twists an antique-style oak wood clock into a surreal and whimsical sculpture. The link to the concept of time is made explicit by the knotted grandfather clock – an icon of British design whose purpose is to mark its passing. Alex Chinneck’s redesign of the piece literally ties time into a knot. Pushing the boundaries of material and form, Chinneck’s contemporary sculptures challenge our perceptions of the strict or inflexible objects that surround us in our daily life. As Chinneck says “I design playful public artworks for everyone to experience and enjoy, turning every day into the extraordinary.”
