Toile, a word nowadays meaning garment, has evolved through the centuries from dressing up, washing oneself, attending to one’s appearance, and dressing room. Grounded in the word’s connotations throughout history, toile is a homage to femininity, as Carolina believes women should not be afraid to look, be or behave feminine.
The shape is inspired by an old mirror, found in Wilcke’s parent’s attic, which belonged to her grandfather who was a hairdresser in the 30’s and 40’s in the working-class district of Amsterdam.
The dressing table carefully combines its meaningful background within each design object.
