This intriguing artwork is inspired by a text from the book Narcissus and Goldmund by Hermann Hesse.
In the referred book, we find 2 men starring, starting at a monastery: Narcissus is the asceet and Goldmund the artist. The book follows the life and works of Goldmund who becomes a sculptor.
From the book, the artist uses 13 lines from page 168 which represents her vision as an artist. These 13 lines are embroidered in tulips on a linnen canvas fabric: each letter has its own color tulip.
There are 24 different letters in the text – so also 24 different color tulips.
Each tulip is 10 cm high. Capitals are higher in lenght. The total field is 170 x 170 cm
The stems are in different shades of green: vowels are in lighter green and consonants are in darker shade.
A legend is provided for translation and by interpreting it, we can read the tulip text and delve into a different fictitious world.
