A pair of symmetrically smashed, bevelled glass mirrors in hand-carved, English walnut frames with a French Polish finish.
British sculptor Alex Chinneck has a fascination with warping the world around us; challenging our expectations of familiar materials; and achieving the seemingly impossible. The smashed mirrors belong to a series of artworks in which Alex attempts to control chaos, creating the illusion that everyday objects have cracked and smashed identically or in perfect symmetry. This series includes the first of Chinneck’s public artworks, Telling the truth through false teeth’, which brought him wide acclaim. The identically smashed mirrors in this series are set in hand-carved walnut frames.
